History of BEAM

On this page we provide an extensive insight into the history of BEAM central vacuum cleaning systems.

Dedicated to the production of bagless central vacuum cleaner systems since 1957.

It is often thought that the central vacuum cleaner system is a development of the past years, nothing could be further from the truth. We go back in time to the year 1957, the company Beam Manufacturing Company changes into BEAM Industries. Over the past 20 years, the Beam Manufacturing Company has mainly focused on the production of washing machines. After the takeover in 1957 under the leadership of Robert L. Sampson, the company BEAM Industries starts the development and production of central vacuum cleaning units. Shortly afterwards, the company grows into the largest producer of central vacuum cleaners in the USA and Canada.

After a business premises expansion from 6.000 square feet to 55.000 square feet in 1988, the company is taken over in 1989 by Electrolux AB from Sweden. With Mr. John Coghlan at the helm, the production of central vacuum units makes a huge leap through global expansion to countries such as Ireland, Noowegen, Finland and a few years later the Netherlands. With a company takeover in Canada and expansion in Europe, Asia and Australia, the company is now present in more than 52 countries and is able to position itself as the world market leader in central vacuum cleaning systems. In 2006 John Coghlan decides to stop, the helm is then transferred to Russel Minnick, after which the company continues to focus on the future of the central vacuum cleaning system. For example, production is moved to state-of-the-art facilities and marketing is further expanded with the help of the Electrolux logo. In 2007 the name BEAM Industries changes to Electrolux Central Vacuum Systems.

Market leader

For the past 20 years, BEAM Industries and Electrolux Central Vacuum Systems have led the market, providing innovative products and solutions that always met customer expectations. With special developments such as the patented sound-damping technology that has reduced the noise of the central vacuum cleaner unit by more than 50%, the company is able to distinguish itself from the competition.

A very special milestone was achieved in 1999 when the one millionth central vacuum cleaner unit, a BEAM Serenity, was assembled. Less than 10 years later, in July 2005, the next milestone is reached by the two millionth vacuum cleaner rolling off the production line. The total BEAM production now exceeds 5.000.000 vacuum units worldwide.
